Likert scales are often used in social and market research. They are used to examine opinions, attitudes, and perspectives. They most often take the form of a 5- or 7-point scale :
- No
- Rather no
- Don’t know
- Rather yes
- Yes
Likert scale in single-choice questions:
- Select a choice question.
- Add the question text and response options with a Likert scale.
Likert scale in matrix questions:

Note. When constructing a Likert scale, it is important:
- The middle value should express neutrality (eg., “I have no opinion”).
- Symmetry of the scale should be maintained – the same number of points should be given on both sides.
NOTE. The name of the scale comes from the name of the American psychologist Rensis Likert, who invented it in 1932.
